The Central Energy Trust provides grants to community, sporting, educational, cultural and health organisations within the Manawatu/Tararua regions for projects which are energy-related and which will benefit the consumer's of the former CentralPower/ElectroPower energy companies. The range of organisations that benefit from funding provided by the Central Energy Trust can be seen by the assortment of photos displayed throughout the website.

The Central Energy Trust also provides Bursaries each year to students to provide assistance with the cost of their tertiary education and training.


The last grant round was held in November 2019 with some $1,056,112 being approved to 41 organisations.

The next grant round is scheduled for May 2020 with applications closing at 5.00pm on Friday, 1 May 2020. For more information please click here.


For the 2020 year 16 students were awarded Central Energy Trust Bursaries. The winner of the Central Energy Trust Supreme Award will be announced at our Bursary Presentations next month.

Applications for students entering in their first year of study in 2021 will open late September 2021.

The recipient of "The Central Energy Trust 2019 Supreme Award" was Caitlin Mercer. Caitlin attended Freyberg High School and is now studying towards a Bachelor of Arts - Majoring in Psychology, Minor of Theatre. The Supreme Award totals $15,000, $5,000 per year over a period of three years.
