COVID-19 update from Central Energy Trust

In accordance with the guidance and recommendations from the Ministry of Health to mitigate community spread of COVID-19, the office of Central Energy Trust is temporarily closed however we all continue to work from home, answering your queries, processing grant applications and funding reimbursements.

Our current grant round was originally scheduled to close Friday, 1 May 2020 however we understand that given the current circumstances you may have been unable to obtain the necessary documentation to complete your application. We are pleased to advise we have extended the closing date of our May grant round, the closing date for applications will now be 5:00pm, Wednesday 13 May 2020.

Our preference is for the majority of applications to please be emailed however if you are unable to do this please get in touch with us and we can make other arrangements.

The Central Energy Trust provides grants to community, sporting, educational, cultural and health organisations within the Manawatu/Tararua regions for projects which are energy-related and which will benefit the consumer's of the former CentralPower/ElectroPower energy companies. The range of organisations that benefit from funding provided by the Central Energy Trust can be seen by the assortment of photos displayed throughout the website.

The Central Energy Trust also provides Bursaries each year to students to provide assistance with the cost of their tertiary education and training.


The last grant round was held in November 2019 with some $1,056,112 being approved to 41 organisations.

For the 2020 year 16 students were awarded Central Energy Trust Bursaries.

Applications for students entering in their first year of study in 2021 will open late September 2020.

The recipient of "The Central Energy Trust 2020 Supreme Award" was Olivia Brookie. Olivia attended Cornerstone Christian School and is now studying towards a Bachelor of Chemical/Bioprocess Engineering. The Supreme Award totals $15,000, $5,000 per year over a period of three years.
